[ ABOUT THE AUTHOR ]

Between Philosophy
& Technology

Michael G. Healy studied philosophy at the University of London during a period when the department was led by the distinguished philosopher Sir Bernard Williams, whose influence helped shape his lifelong interest in ethics, reason, human flourishing, and the history of ideas.

His fascination with science, technology, and civilisation began during the first great wave of personal computing and has continued for decades as he has observed the extraordinary acceleration of technological change. Alongside a career in technology, he developed a deep interest in the individuals whose ideas transformed the course of history Alexandria and Hypatia to Newton, Tesla, and Turing.

BOOK ONE — WHERE IT BEGINS

The Hero Engine

What happens when scarcity becomes optional?

Adam Lister has spent years developing Prometheus, a technology capable of transforming the way civilisation produces and distributes the necessities of life. If it works, scarcity itself begins to lose its grip. But a discovery powerful enough to make abundance possible also threatens governments, corporations and institutions whose authority was built in a world of limits.

The Hero Engine begins the struggle over a technology that could change civilisation — and over who will control the future once the old economics of scarcity begins to break down.

THE INTELLIGENCE AGE

From Scarcity to Abundance

My new book, The Intelligence Age, is now in its final edit and will be published and available soon.

The book explores a transformation that I believe is only beginning to reveal its scale: artificial intelligence is becoming not simply another technology, but a new productive force. For the first time, intelligence itself — historically one of humanity's scarcest and most valuable resources — may be becoming increasingly abundant.
